My car has been in the shop for over a week getting a nose job and I have had the pleasure of cruising around in a 300C while it is under the knife.
This is the result after a week of driving and a road trip over the weekend. It is likely a bit optimistic, but still impressive when cruising at 80 with a little city driving in a land yacht.
Apparently I never took a picture of the exterior and it has been raining the past few days, but it looks exactly like this with the small wheels. They may not be as attractive as some of the larger wheel options, but
I would seek them out as they
give the car an even smoother ride.
The car is a very nice place to be with ventilated seats, more than adequate power, and nearly every other feature you could want. I will be sad to return it, especially those seats, once I get my car back. They do wonders in the afternoon Texas heat.
I’ve put nearly 3000 miles on 300's this year in this 300C and a 300S in June. This would be my weapon of choice if I drove long distances day in and day out.
And why my car is in the shop:

I’ve always liked that gauge cluster. The whole interior really.

Agreed. By far my favorite rental car option. A hemi makes everything better.

Driving long distances regularly was exactly why I chose my 300! When I got it, I was working a job driving 1,000mi a week, my Cruze was miserable so I looked at this, a DTS, and a Regal GS. I found the Buick to be too harsh and small, the Cadillac was a great size and super comfy, but the 300 got better mileage, was newer, and so far *knock on fake walnut veneer*, far more reliable than any Cadillac that’s been in the family. It’s a fantastic car and I recommend it to anyone in the market for a nice sedan.

guy that trained me just traded his pt cruiser in for a 300 wagon (dudes got a thing for americans... and that thing is mostly heated seats and biglyness)
oh and he upgraded to the 300 coz the pt wasnt big enough for his rc boat
anyhoo.. what i meant to say is dayum... that 300 wagon is a beast of a car compared to most things running around here.... i kinda like it

I mean, it’s still an E-Class chassis, right?

I highly considered getting a 300 when I picked up my 6, but it would not have fit in the garage when the 6 ended up only having a an inch or two around each side. My mother has the pentastar in her GC and it has been flawless, excluding numerous minor recalls, for nearly 100k.

Yep. Traces back to the early 2000's E- class I believe.

W210 suspension, I believe...1997-98, somewhere in there. I don’t think it ever “fully” sat on the E-Class chassis, per se. Just parts bin and shared engineering.
Nothing wrong with that. A late 90s Mercedes still has a lot of parts that blow away mass market cars today.

The 300's overall design has aged beautifully. It was too bling in 200-whatever but it’s become very refined.

Yes, total parts bin. The floorpan and cowl, and possibly windshield frame structure all date to the 1988 Eagle Premier.
Chrysler started out by planning to rebody the LH platform and convert it to RWD (as provisions for that had been engineered into it from the beginning), but Daimler dictated that they incorporate elements of the outgoing E-Class in order to demonstrate synergy between the two halves of the company.
BMW did pretty much the exact same thing to Rover, re the Z-axle setup in the Rover 75.

The 300 really doesn’t get the respect it deserves, at all. I partly blame the crossover obsession, combined with the ghetto cruiser image the 1st gen 300 acquired, especially after they depreciated.
But, it is a handsome car with a nice interior, comfortable ride, good power, and lots of features for a very good price.

It was never on an E-class chassis. It was an updated LH chassis that borrowed RWD bits from the Mercedes parts bin like the rear suspension and transmission that happened to be used on the E class and other vehicles.
